Laganas
is situated on the south coast of Zante,
5 kilometres from the airport and is the largest resort on the island.
Known for its lively atmosphere, Laganas is very popular with young
people, who are attracted to the many bars and clubs which line
the main strip of this resort. The lively nightlife here attracts
clubbers who are able to party until dawn! There is also a vast
selection of restaurants catering for all tastes.
The resort is set within the bay of Laganas which stretches for
nine kilometres and is the breeding ground for the endangered Loggerhead
turtles. Water sports are very limited in this resort, to protect
the nesting turtles, however it is possible to take trips to other
nearby resorts to partake in motorised water sports.
There are three islands in the bay, Marathonisi
(Turtle Island), Ayios Sostis or Cameo
Island, where a weekly white party takes place and Pelouzo,
which is a rock formation at the northern end of the bay. Many boat
trips are available to spot and swim with the turtles.
There are many shops within the resort selling holiday souvenirs,
jewellery and leather goods. There are also scores of supermarkets
for all your holiday essentials.
Accommodation is spread out
over a large area.
The small neighbouring resort of Aghios Sostis is a short walk along
the beach from Laganas. It is opposite the Marathonisi (Turtle)
island. There is a child friendly beach here set amongst rocky coves.
Aghios Sostis is ideal for those looking for a quiet and laid back
holiday.
